Roaring 20s @ The Landmark Theatre!

Not only are our pieces fabulous for weddings and photo shoots, but consider us for your corporate events as well.  Check out these displays from the KS&R holiday party held at Syracuse’s own Landmark Theater.  The fabulous 1920s Empire Boardwalk inspired theme was perfect for this venue and our pieces.  Our trunks, shoe rack, furniture cart, dressers and suitcases displayed dishes, silverware and dessert while props like wooden buckets, trunks and books set the scene.  The star, however, was the House beverage cart which created an authentic vignette that set the mood for party goers.

E Session: Nadia + Mike, So Very Apple!

Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a trip to Beak & Skiff on a crisp, fall day? The air, the view, the fritters….. ah!! The fritters! There is just something very nostalgic about a trip to go apple picking. Maybe it’s the scenic ride to the orchard, or the rustic tractor. Perhaps it is that first bite of apple fresh off the tree. Whatever the case may be, there are very few who could argue that apple picking isn’t one of the warmest feelings of the season. Wait did I say crisp earlier??… Love us some apple crisp. Ok focus! How can we though? The images that the EXTREMELY TALENTED Mabyn Ludke sent over from an engagement session that we styled this past fall are literally to die for.  The colors, the textures, the landscape…. swoon! It really is breathtaking. Add in a couple who is head over heels in love for each other, some classic vintage pieces, Mabyn behind the lens… well, that is how magic happens. Don’t you agree?!

Love this look for your engagement or family session? Contact us to rent our Red Trunk, Wing Back Chair, Orchard Ladders, Vintage Books, Glass Bottle Collection, Crates and Beverage Bucket.

E Session: Nicole + Brian, Part II

Thanks to Caitlyn and Saad for sharing the images from Nicole and Brian’s engagement session!! Cruising (foreshadowing!) through them was just so incredibly fun for us, especially to see how our pieces complement a couple and their vision. We just couldn’t fit it all into one post, so this round we bring you our tandem bicycle!

Nicole and Brian wanted to break up their engagement session from their vintage inspired train love story to a picturesque bike ride along the country side. No other place than the Fayetteville Canal could provide such a backdrop. And in late fall… breathtaking. A quick drive over from Jamesville, a new set of vintage inspired clothes, and there you have it! A peacefully beautiful ride along a rustic canal complete with the most sweetest couple!

Oh how fun thetandem really is!! When it is not being used for a session, you may just very well catch us cruising around Fayetteville.

To rent this look, please inquire about our tandem bicycle, picture frame, crates, scrabble letters and potato sack collection.

E Session: Nicole + Brian, Part I

When Nicole and Brian contacted us to help style their engagement session, thrilled would be an understatement. They were looking to create a vintage train inspired love story complete with an authentic setting and lots of character. We met over coffee to get the creative juices flowing and voila!

When we began running thru our inventory and what we could do to recreate their vision, the possibilities became endless. We talked and talked and talked! We knew that our steamer trunks, classic lingerie, suitcases and books would work just nicely. To tie the theme together we had to make use of our furniture factory moveing cart. They wanted a rustic, worn look. Nothing too polished or fancy. The Jamesville Quarry became the target location.

Nicole and Brian were also looking to use our tandem bicycle hottie, ‘Suri Cruise’ for a picturesque ride. We knew that one location would not suffice, so off to the races! We decided to separate looks and props between two diffrent settings and style a story for the couple. Add in a costume change and a quick drive over to the Fayetteville Canal  and  their session was complete!

The images captured by Caitlyn and Saad of Caitlyn Bom Photography are nothing short of masterpiece. This photog duo was an absolute pleasure to work with. They were fun, friendly and as you can see below, amazingly talented!

We are going to showcase this engagement session over a two-part post, because it is truly that stunning!

To complete this look, Nicole and Brian rented the following pieces:

Large Steamer Trunk, Factory Movers Cart no. 480, Blue Garment Travel Trunk filled with our classic lingerie, our suitcase collection and vintage books.

Showcase @ The Events Company

We recently hooked up with The Events Company located right here in Syracuse, NY.  When Nicole and company invited us to bring some of our favorite things to play, we just couldn’t resist.  We set up a lovely sweetheart tablescape with our chippy paint farm table and china and dressed it up with some cork-filled mason jars.  We also set up our tall boy, which we love to use as a place for signing the guest book at any special event.  Paired with shutters for table cards, we think it makes the perfect welcome area.  Topped off with some books, scrabble letters and suitcases to complete the rustic, vintage look, we think it’s perfect.

The showroom at The Events Company is filled with beautiful displays and we love being a part of it.  Come check us out along with Nicole’s other great exhibits at 230 Harrison Street, Syracuse, NY. Keep in mind that we will be changing out our items every few weeks if you need an excuse to keep going back!

Holiday Nostalgia

The holiday season is absolutely the best.  What we love most is the gathering together of the people who mean the most.  Of course when that happens we throw ourselves into party preparation mode and that’s when it really becomes fun.  Sometimes you don’t have to go far to find the the best inspiration.

Erica here…in my case it’s my parents’ Cape Cod on the hill.  Last week I traveled to my small Central New York hometown to spend Thanksgiving with my extended family.  Whenever I walk through my parents’ home I am inspired all over again and am reminded where my love for antiques was born (quite literally).  Their home is filled with countless vintage treasures like old ink wells and feather pens, glass bottles, copper boilers, an antique sewing machine and a roll top desk.  They have vintage lunch boxes and china cabinets and porcelain jugs just to add a few.  Virtually every corner and surface is home to another wonderful piece.

I love to hear my parents tell of their weekend trips to Madison-Boukville to treasure hunt “before us kids came along,” and I guess it’s true the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree because here we are today.  During these holidays I am thankful for my family and the love of vintage they imparted on me.

Up Close and Personal with our Tall Boy!

A few months ago (oh my god, its been that long!) we discovered this strapping tall boy. He was painted pale green in certain spots, had dark, rough edges and was in desperate need of a makeover. We removed the hardware, stripped the paint and started sanding away.

His top was separating in certain areas, so with some super strong wood glue (Gorilla Glue), we spread a thin layer around the edges and clamped the top down to let dry over night. The face of the second drawer was also rather weak. Thankfully for some beautiful tongue and groove craftmanship, we easily secured the drawer with a tiny amount of Gorilla Glue around the edges and also let dry. The glue is amazingly strong and OH SO STICKY!

Using a powersander and 120 grit sandpaper, we started to smooth away the edges. We sanded the piece down to expose as much natural grain as possible, leaving a soft, even layer.

No more sad green paint!

Next, the stain, ah! We choice Minwax wood finish, special walnut. It kept the piece’s original natural beauty and really brought out that tiger grain. Make sure you wear gloves! We used heavy-duty towel cloths to spread the stain. Make sure you leave an appropriate amount of time for the piece to dry. Remember, you can always go darker with additional coats, so start off lighter and work your way up. We definitely recommend at least a day or two between coats.

Well, two coats of stain later and the original hardware replaced, we have our very own new (old) tall boy brought back to life. And what is even more exciting is that he is making his debut at the The Events Company where he will be staged as a guest book area. Love Love Love!

Picture our tall boy in a dessert display, a bar area or a conversational lounge piece. He could be the perfect addition to the end of a ceremony aisle where your programs await. He’ll look even more handsome with some fresh flowers overflowing from either drawer!

Harvest Inspiration

It’s almost Thanksgiving, imagine that! There’s no question about it, Thanksgiving is perhaps one of our most favorite times during the year. It has that natural rustic feel that we love so much, not to mention a comfortable, yet elegant tone. It truly has our heart and soul written all over it. The colors, the warmth, the food… ahh, the food. We can taste it already!

So you can only imagine that when the opportunity for us to team up with Katie Lemos Brown, celebration consultant and author of The Lovewell Post and Mabyn Ludke Photography arose to style a harvest-inspired dining experience at Cazenovia’s very own Lincklaen House, our hearts skipped a beat, perhaps a few thousand beats… And we quickly hopped right on!

What could be more luscious than a red dining room paired with our delicate but stylish china adorned with gold trim, a wingback chair perfect for a king and candlelight, lots and lots of candlelight. Well, the results are in, and they’re breathtaking.

What is even MORE EXCITING is that this shoot was recently featured on The Sweetest Occasion!!!! Check out the full post HERE. In addition, visit The Lovewell Post for more DIY inspiration including yummy recipes and chair decor for your very own holiday gathering.

To rent this look, please inquire about our China collection, Rose Wingback Chair, Factory Rack and Lantern collection.
